In the centre of Clayoquot Sound, Tofino is surrounded by crashing waves and towering rainforests. Watch eagles swoop overhead, and if you’re lucky, spot a black bear hunting for food on the shore. You may even cross paths with transient gray whales that live in the area.
Hike into the giant cedar and ancient Sitka spruce rainforests that surround Tofino, and let the silence of the forest rejuvenate your spirit. If that doesn't work, take a one-hour boat ride to Hot Spring's Cove, an all-natural thermal hot spring pool, reached from the beach by a gentle 2 km (1 mi.) boardwalk path through the forest. In March celebrate the annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival with locals in Ucluelet and Tofino. Tofino is 316 km (196 mi.) northwest of Victoria on the Pacific Rim Highway. Commercial airlines fly into Cassidy Airport just outside of Nanaimo 206 km (128 mi.) east of Port Alberni; for local airline service see our Tofino Airline section. BC Ferries depart from Tsawwassen and Horseshoe ferry terminals in Vancouver, and dock in Nanaimo.
